RACE NIGHT 7.30 PM FRIDAY MARCH 28TH 2008

Dear Members and Friends,

The Cricket Club celebrated its 85th Anniversary in 2007, which promised to be an exciting and progressive year. We think we achieved this with the first team finishing 3rd in the Premier league and winning the County 20/20 Challenge Cup; 3rd and 4th teams were both promoted and the Sunday team were runners up in the Final.
Our under 17 side won their league and several other junior sides were runners-up.

We achieved the National Clubmark status and this is a major step to some support from the ECB community sport funds you may have heard about in the news. We are currently applying for a machinery grant.

In 2008 the Club will run 4 senior teams on Saturdays and one on Sundays. There will be eleven junior teams ages 10 –17 and extensive beginners coaching on Monday evenings. We will also be running our second year of Chance to Shine coaching to re-establish the sport in schools. We are now running winter indoor practice for almost all age groups and this does depend on having many qualified coaches.

All of this is done by volunteers but none of this can be achieved without funds and we hope to again have a well-attended and successful ‘Race Night’ on Friday 28th March as the Club’s major fund raising event. Last year we purchased new sightscreens but we still need to improve those now on the nursery square, get a quality mobile net and sheets for wicket coverage.

Tickets for the Race Night 7.30 on Friday 28th March are £6 for adults and £4 for juniors under16 with family concessions available. A curry supper will be provided and we hope you can attend and bring along your family and friends to make this again an excellent social evening. Everyone welcome. Tickets can be obtained in advance from Geoff Moss, Matthew Webb, Cham Willey, Andy Ingman, Ross McLean, Simon Hill, and Jenny Morris or from coaches at any of the winter practice sessions. We must know numbers by Monday 24th Mar. for catering purposes. People are welcome to just come on the night but cannot then be guaranteed a meal.

There will be 8 video horse races and in case you have never been to one of these evenings it is good fun with a minimum stake of £1 on a horse. We have 56 horses to ‘sell’ for the races at £5 each with a prize for the winning owner in each race, so if you can persuade any colleagues at work to contribute in this way please bring along their £5 for ‘ownership’ for the night. Thank you.

We look forward to seeing you on March 28th from 7.30 and hope that you can help us to make this popular event a great success again.
